Where Things Went Wrong
Why do builds from >2013 look better, and who's fault is it
Intro
For a while now, my hate has grown for a lot of the newer builds I see online. Maybe I'm just a natural hater, but when some newer builders turned up in my feed this past year (Hodgepodge and delta.builds come to mind), I realised maybe my hating was not actually aimed towards the builders themselves, but the part selection that they choose to build with. This is not to say that I don't also think there has been a trend in the styles of builds as of recent - obviously people are prone to following trends of builders they like - but there is still a way to have a fresh style or take while still hitting the spot that I love about early flickr culture. This blog may take a while to finish, but it's something that I've wanted to dive into further - to look at how the design language of the system itself has changed, and how that effects peoples approach and their style. Hopefully this is interesting to others, and if not, FUCK YOU!!!
Some topics I hope to cover (this being for my own reference when I come back to write this fully) would be the really early system parts, legos rejection of bevelled parts, G1 bionicle, Brikwars, clipslop (coined by Chloe), LEGO's recent obsession with curves, and pinterest.
Come back later for a finished blog!!
